eCampusOntario hosts annual OER Seminar with student government leaders

Every year, eCampusOntario hosts an annual OER seminar to connect with student government leaders and engage in conversations about open education.

On August 21, eCampusOntario was pleased to host the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA), the Canadian Federation of Students, Ontario (CFS Ontario), the College Student Alliance (CSA), the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) and Regroupement étudiant franco-ontarien / Franco-Ontarian Students’ Association (RÉFO) at the Social Innovation Centre in Toronto.

The seminar is designed to engage student leaders in conversations about the development, adaptation and adoption of open educational resources. The sessions are designed to appeal to a range of students just learning about OER to those with advanced knowledge. Every year, guest speakers reflect on their experience advocating for open education in their context.

This year, the Seminar featured presentations from Aran Armutlu, Chairperson of the British Columbia Federation of Students (BCFS), and Nick Baker, faculty member and the Director of the Office of Open Learning at the University of Windsor. Both presentations provided valuable student and faculty insights, complemented each other and stimulated engaging discussions. As always, the event concluded with a world café conversation session to support meaningful discussion among participants.
