Kicking off Ontario Extend with the Extend Summer Institute

The Ontario Extend Summer Institute is a Northern capacity building project that is intended to empower a community of 30 Northern Ontario educators as they explore a range of emerging technologies and pedagogical practices for effective online and technology-enabled learning.

In keeping with Dr. Simon Bates’ educator framework from his presentation titled Anatomy of the 21st Century Educator, the Institute will be supported by six online modules that embody the attributes of a twenty-first century educator: teacher for learning, curator, technologist, collaborator, educator, scholar, and experimenter.

Using the modules, the educators will extend their skills and knowledge about technology-enabled teaching and learning while reflecting upon the ways in which the skills impact their teaching practice and scholarship. The Institute and its workshops will challenge the participants to explore new technologies and approaches to learning and encourage them to share these developments and insights with their home institutions. The project will kick off in Toronto in mid August.
